Once, as a little girl, I wanted to play with my teddy bear, but I forgot it at home. My grandpa, a tailor by profession, did not have any toys for me, so he decided to make one by cutting and stitching old covers from his couch. From a piece of cloth he created my new favorite toy! At that time this seemed to me like a miracle. I discovered a new passion in my life: The design.

After high school I studied at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering in Ljubljana, majoring in textile and clothing, and graduated with excellent marks. I wanted to know more, so I continued studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, majoring in graphics, and the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague.

A lot of my experience, both in Graphic and Textile Design, I gained by working as a main designer at Intersocks d.o.o. in the Department for Developement and Design. During this period I have worked for famous Brands such as Asics, Salomon, Columbia, Intersport, Nordica, K2...

Re-use Plasic - Be fantastic!!

In September 2011, a Viennese environmental initiative "Die Umweltberatung" started a campaign called "Plastic bag - no thanks!". "Die Umweltberatung" organized a video competition with emphasis on design shopping bags made of used materials. The aim was to find creative solutions to plastic bag problem. Videos published on YouTube were supposed to show in just a few minutes, how shopping plastic bags can be re-used. "So many different materials and a completely different video presentations have far exceeded our expectations! We congratulate the winners and thank all who participated.", says Gabriele Mag Wittner, who heads the competition of "Die Umweltberatung".

Message in the Jewelry - 19th Biennal of Industrial Design

Man creates home as a result of the need to protect himself, as well as a mental refuge. Every person is an individual and a social being which needs home. On one hand, a man without home finds it more difficult to live in balance with his own nature. On the other hand, very often we see that despite the safe shelter one can feel like a homeless.

As a result of these thoughts, Jewelry was created, with a message in itself: Homeless people live among us. Between our homes. This was reflected not only in the form, but also in the characteristics of a ring. In the wooden plate there is a secret hole which contains a note with a message. These messages are presented under the photos as true answers of the homeless people I met, to the question: What is home? I wanted to exchange those rings with them for any object they want to offer. On one side, this was supposed to give those objects a new value. The rings, on the other side, would get yet another new meaning. However, because all the things they were carrying were essential for their life, they did not have anything to offer, so I donate them the rings. Which role and importance these rings should have, I left them to decide. Maybe they will give them away as a present or it may become a fetish symbol for the homeless. This way or another, the story of rings stays with them.

Bags

For most people shopping is one of the usual daily routines. And for all those purchases one usually gets at least one plastic bag. Most of people do not observe how many bags are used monthly, yearly... They are usually thrown away after first use and plastic bags can take up to 1000 years to decompose. It seems that plastic bags are becoming one of the biggest ecological problems in the world at this moment. Ironically, production of plastic bags was never higher in volume than at this moment.

So, I started to collect old and used plastic bags. Eventually, I got loads of bags from my friends and family. They were different in sizes and color patterns, with a range of smelling from freshly baked bread to the stuffy wet basements. They came to me from all over the world - like postcards. Some of them were from Italy, Serbia, Austria, Syria… Old and used plastic bags turned into colorful hand-made tote bags which gave them an entirely new life.

Umbrellas

The story with old plastic bags and their recycling continues. Yarns made of cut bags are actually very interesting plastic material. They are water proof and light as well as easy to handle.

Thus, old umbrellas got their decoration and became lively again.

Socks Creatures

Ahoi! We are Socks Creatures from Sockyland. We are made of old socks and we are here to show you how to preserve the environment.

Let me introduce each of us.

Guido knows how to make toys from plastic bottles. However, sometimes you don't know whether it is a toy or space shuttle. Roberto is the best in making all kind of music instruments. With his music, he can make best atmosphere but also ruin the party. My name is Rosalia, and I know how to make cookies with healthy herbs from the forest. They make you happy. I got this recipe from my grandgrandgrandgrandgrandmother.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Sockyland! :)
